Apps in Facebook & OpenSocial: Why librarians should pay attention

Title: Apps in Facebook & OpenSocial: Why librarians should pay attention
Name:
Rachel Vacek, Web Services Coordinator, University of Houston Libraries
IM & Twitter: vacekrae

Description: In May 2007, Facebook opened up their development platform to create apps within Facebook itself.  Later that year, Google released OpenSocial with the intent to allow developers to create apps that would work across multiple social websites. This presentation looks at what both platforms offer (or don't), some of the issues with being more open, and why libraries should investigate developing apps in OpenSocial in addition to Facebook

You can watch this presentation and join me on Saturday, June 28, at 1:30 pm to chat about the app platforms, the open concepts, or the issues and controversies at the BIGWIG Social Software Showcase 2008.

There are some pretty sweet topics this year! I hope you can come.
